About Little Lost Travel
Welcome to Little Lost Travel, a practical guide to easy outdoor adventures and car-free travel in Scotland.
Who We Are
I’m Francesca, a UK-based travel writer who has spent over a decade exploring Scotland’s natural landscapes.
I’ve been drawn to Scotland ever since I was a teenager, island-hopping on the west coast, travelling by train through the Highlands and even swimming in the sea.
Coming from a city, I’m a non-driver, but I love getting out in nature. There’s a misconception that you need a car to access Scotland’s outdoors. You don’t! And you’re not limited to cities.
That’s why this blog is about beginner-friendly outdoor adventures that anyone can do, whether it’s exploring by public transport, easy walks or day trips from the city.
From scenic train rides to wildlife spotting, my mission is to show you how to get outdoors more in Scotland and have a positive impact along the way.

A Scotland Travel Blog
Rugged mountains, mirror-like lochs, dramatic scenery…. There’s nowhere quite like Scotland. I’ve been exploring the country’s great outdoors for over a decade, and I return as often as I can, multiple times a year! I’m a non-driver, so most of my itineraries are car-free and rely on public transport or small group tours. I focus on easy outdoor activities in Scotland.
There are no guides to wild camping on the side of a mountain for three nights on this Scotland travel blog, but you will find easy walks, day trips in the outdoors and local nature-focused itineraries.
So, where have I been in Scotland? I’ve visited Edinburgh and Glasgow and stayed on the banks of Loch Lomond. I’ve explored Inverness, the gateway to the Highlands and Fort William at the foot of Ben Nevis, the UK’s tallest mountain. I’ve looked for ‘Nessie’ on Loch Ness, spotted red squirrels in Pitlochry, ridden AND photographed the Jacobite Steam Train in Glenfinnan, went whale watching off the coast of Mull and cycled around the Isle of Skye… I could go on all day!
My favourite place in Scotland so far? The Isle of Arran. It has everything from dramatic mountains to whisky distilleries and resident seals. Have a look at some of my most popular posts about Scotland:

My Story
Let’s turn back to 2018. I had graduated from university with a degree in English Literature, and like a lot of graduates, I was at a crossroads about what to do next…. So I travelled. I was a fresh-faced solo traveller, though I’d already caught a flight by myself when I did a French exchange at 15!
2018 was my BIG trip. I went to New Zealand, Fiji and Hong Kong and spent four glorious months island-hopping, climbing snow-capped mountains and immersing myself deep in nature.
When reality hit, my love of travel stayed, so I came back and wrote about it for About Time Magazine. After 2020, I became a published sustainable travel and lifestyle writer, covering eco issues in pebble magazine.
I’ve since written about the benefits of sustainable outdoor travel for Impakter, TravelDudes, Kind Traveler and Epicure & Culture. I’ve collaborated with SCOTLAND: The Big Picture and Historic Scotland to promote slow, sustainable experiences in Scotland.
As a professional travel writer, I have been fortunate to travel all over the world, from Mauritius to Cyprus, but I’m now focusing more on local travel in Scotland. I take the train up there multiple times a year, so I’ve always got my ear to the ground on what’s new.
