Hi, I’m Francesca

I’m the founder of Little Lost Travel, a travel blog about Scotland. I’m a UK-based travel writer and nature lover who has spent over a decade exploring Scotland’s natural landscapes.

Whether you’re planning a car-free trip, looking for easy walks or searching for ethical wildlife experiences, I’m here to show you how to make the most of Scotland’s incredible outdoors.

My Mission

My mission is to inspire you to embrace Scotland’s outdoors responsibly and make a positive impact along the way. From scenic train rides to wildlife spotting, Scotland has something for everyone, and I’m all about beginner-friendly outdoor adventures around Scotland that bring you closer to the natural world.

When we connect with nature, we care more about protecting it. That’s why I focus on practical ways to enjoy Scotland responsibly, so we can help safeguard it for the future.

What is Little Lost Travel?

I started Little Lost Travel at the beginning of 2018 to share my experience as a solo traveller on a trip to New Zealand. But I wasn’t satisfied. With climate change becoming an urgent issue, it’s clear that we all need to think about our impact on the planet. Part of that means looking at how we travel and how our choices affect the environment.

For me, travel is the ultimate escape. It’s about experiencing new cultures, exploring nature, and observing incredible wildlife. But it’s also about making sure we do all of this in a way that protects the planet, both for ourselves and for future generations. Little Lost Travel has since become a place where I share how sustainable outdoor travel in Scotland can have a positive impact and how spending time in nature benefits us all.

A Scotland Travel Blog

Rugged mountains, mirror-like lochs, dramatic scenery…. There’s nowhere quite like Scotland. I’ve been exploring the country’s great outdoors for over a decade, and I return as often as I can, multiple times a year! I’m a non-driver, so most of my itineraries are car-free and rely on public transport or small group tours. I focus on easy outdoor activities in Scotland that anyone can do.

There are no guides to wild camping on the side of a mountain for three nights on this Scotland travel blog, but you will find easy walks, day trips in the outdoors and local nature-focused itineraries. So, where have I been in Scotland? I’ve visited Edinburgh and Glasgow and stayed on the banks of Loch Lomond. I’ve explored Inverness, the gateway to the Highlands and Fort William at the foot of Ben Nevis, the UK’s tallest mountain.  I’ve looked for ‘Nessie’ on Loch Ness, spotted red squirrels in Pitlochry, ridden AND photographed the Jacobite Steam Train in Glenfinnan, went whale watching off the coast of Mull and cycled around the Isle of Skye… I could go on all day!

My favourite place in Scotland so far? The Isle of Arran. It has everything from dramatic mountains to whisky distilleries and resident seals. Have a look at some of my most popular posts about Scotland:

Why Sustainable Outdoor Travel Matters

Travel has a profound impact on communities and wildlife in the places we visit. Responsible travel is about making conscious choices like reducing flights, supporting ethical tour operators or avoiding destinations struggling with overtourism. These small but meaningful decisions help ensure travel has a positive impact. It’s a journey, not a destination. None of us is perfect at it (I know I’m not!), but learning and making small changes is a great place to start.

For me, as a Scotland travel blogger, it is about enjoying the outdoors responsibly: leaving no trace, respecting local wildlife, and supporting businesses that give back to their communities. These choices all contribute to protecting Scotland’s natural beauty for years to come. Here are some resources on responsible outdoor travel:

My Story

Let’s turn back to 2018. I had graduated from university with a degree in English Literature, and like a lot of graduates, I was at a crossroads about what to do next…. So I travelled. I was a fresh-faced solo traveller, though I’d already caught a flight by myself when I did a French exchange at 15!

2018 was my BIG trip. I went to New Zealand, Fiji and Hong Kong and spent four glorious months swimming with reef sharks, climbing snow-capped mountains and immersing myself deep in nature.

When reality hit, my love of travel stayed, so I came back and wrote about it for About Time Magazine. After 2020, I became a published sustainable travel and lifestyle writer, covering eco issues in pebble magazine.

I’ve since written about the benefits of sustainable travel for Impakter, TravelDudesKind Traveler and Epicure & Culture. I’m also a member of Ethical Influencers, and I’ve collaborated with SCOTLAND: The Big Picture.

As a professional travel writer, I have been fortunate to travel all over the world, from Mauritius to Cyprus, but I’m now focusing more on local travel in Scotland.
